Bladder (irritable)

With an irritable bladder there is a constant urge to urinate, even when there is only a small amount of urine in the bladder. This can be due to dehydration (lack of water) or inflammation of the bladder.

Most people who have this problem drink less water trying to avoid having to urinate so frequently, but this is the wrong approach as it concentrates toxins even more, causing greater irritation. Drinking more water dilutes the toxins and helps the flush them more effectively.

Herbs that soothe the urinary passages, like cornsilk, marshmallow or kava kava, will be helpful. If these don't work try finding pippsessiwa (an herb that is not available from NSP).

You should also consider the possibility of a urinary tract infection. Uva ursi, goldenseal and Silver Shield are possible remedies if this is the cause. Chronic irritable bladder is often improved by taking probiotics.

Emotionally, an irritable bladder may be a symptom of unresolved angry feelings, in other words, being pised off. Dealing with whatever is making you angry will ease the irritation.
